As do I, and I support what California has done. If the people of a state or particular area are overwhelmingly opposed to a federal law they should make state laws making it legal in that area or state. I feel the same applies here, 84% of the Bible Belt has no problem with what happened at Gate City High School Friday Night, so why complain? It's just my beliefs, doesn't mean they are right or wrong. I think we place to much emphasis on the "nation", not every area in this country is the same and the same laws that make sense in Oakland, CA do not make sense in Gate City, VA. I don't see how you could be in favor in totally dis-obeying federal law in one instance and not in another when the amount of people who support each situation are basically equal.

Someone mentioned a "moment of silence". There was a 54 second moment of silence, followed by a VERY brief prayer by the young lady. As the National Anthem was played, 54 balloons (Sullivan South blue and red) were released. Honestly, it was the greatest thing I've ever experienced at a high school football game. All this Muslim, Buddha stuff was never heard of until 8 years ago on 9/11. Now we have to walk on egg shells and give up our personal rights so we don't hurt someone's feelings. It's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard of.

From a pure political standpoint, I think this comes down to each individuals view on state vs. federal. As I mentioned, laws pertaining to drug use are much more liberal in areas than others and very little if anything is ever done to stop that, for what it is worth I have no problem with these laws. However, it is increasingly popular in this nation for left wing groups to attack rights and beliefs of the south. Situations like these arise on a frequent basis and it is continually getting much worse.

Arguments on these two subjects can be made that tax payer dollars support one and not the other, well, is that entirely true? Are there medical insuarnce plans that will pay for medical marijuana? This does not end with federal government based health care either, can state employees in California receive medical marijuana? If so, the tax payers of the state are paying at some degree.

Obviously, we as a nation need to protect minority rights and do so by laws. This is a thin line but in situations where discrimination or violence is not used or apparent I have hard time not supporting a state law. Those other religions can practice their religion as they please and do not have to partake in these events.

Are you trying to say that the US has only became a freedom of religion country since 9/11?
That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard, if that is what you are implying.
It is actually the exact opposite. The US has became more critical of Islam since 9/11. I thought that was common knowledge.

and PVFAN, you are grasping at straws. The Church and State has been in the Constitution since Thomas Jefferson, drug laws weren't added until the 20th century.
I feel its unconstitutional the drug laws, but what in the world does that have to do with Church and State?

You asked about state tax dollars in CA paying for medical marijuana. There are no state sponsored medicare that covers medical marijuana in CA. If you pay for private insurance, some companies have started to pay for some, but not a state-based program.

So no, there are no tax dollars going to medical marijuana in CA.

How are the ACLU and other liberal agencies attacking the freedoms of Southerners? Care to elaborate? White, Christian Southerners have more freedom than anyone else in this country, I think you are trying to make it seem like the world is out to get Christians, when in reality, this country is STILL ran by Christian principles and morals.

I get your point, but I still think you fail to recognize the most important aspect of this whole debate;
it is unconstitutional for a school to allow a prayer to be in an opening sequence of a ballgame, that has been ruled and held up. How can you possibly disagree with this, without letting your Christian bias interfere?

My first post, and all my posts in this thread are directly about prayer at sporting events, and the constitutionality of it all.

You, on the other hand, have added NOTHING to this discussion, having every post go over your head.

This is all about the constitutionality of school-sanctioned prayer. I added my experience for reference only, not for any other reason. You have said NOTHING that counters ANYTHING I have said. PVFAN, and some others have intellectual responses, you don't.

And Stripes did know what I meant, I've made it clear that if people want to pray, let them pray, but you simply CANNOT blur the lines between the Church and schools, its immoral, and unethical.
